Dr.Barry has had a career that has cut across fields and created many “firsts.” She helped develop a program that has sent over1,500 physicians to strengthen capacity in developing countries. Shespearheaded the first tropical disease certification in the US and became thefirst woman clinician elected president of American Society of TropicalMedicine and Hygiene (ASTMH). She is an elected member of the NationalAcademies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine (NASEM) and was awarded theElizabeth Blackwell medal by the American Medical Women's Association (AMWA)for mentorship of women. Her areas of cross-cutting scholarship include refugeehealth, medical ethics, the effect of embargoes on health, the impact ofclimate on health and institutional barriers to women leadership.
