Michael M. Carroll

Dr. Michael M. Carroll was the former Burton J. and Ann M. McMurty Professor of Engineering at Rice University. His research contributions and publications were in the area of micro-mechanics and non-linear elasticity: including continuum mechanics, mechanics of porous materials, electromagnetism and acoustics. His consultant work was with U.S. national laboratories, private corporations, the NCAA, and the National University of Ireland. Carroll's professional activities included service on government boards, editorial boards, university review panels, and U.S. societies of engineering professionals and educational administrators. He also had a serious interest in playwriting and has written two plays with historical themes which have been produced and staged professionally. He passed away in January of 2016.
