Research currently centers on the four seasons motif in art (formal and folk) and in literature (from naturalists to poets) from antiquity to the present, but concentrating on North America since the eighteenth century. His previous work has examined cultural stratification and tast levels in the United States; the role of collective memory in American culture; the Constitution in American culture; and studies in early American political history.
