Marty Smith

Marty Smith is the Co-Reporter of the ABA Task Force for American Democracy, which is co-chaired by former Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson and former Federal Judge J. Michael Luttig. Marty is a former partner at Preston Gates & Ellis LLP (now K&L Gates) and the founder of that firm’s IP department. Marty served as chief outside intellectual property transactional counsel for Microsoft for 24 years as well as advising a host of other Seattle based technology companies over the course of his career. He was a co-founder and a former director of Attenex Corporation, a leading provider of electronic discovery software. 
Marty served as Vice Chair of the ABA Center for Innovation for five years as well as served as a Special Advisor on the ABA’s Commission on the Future of Legal Services.  He is a former board member and chair of The Technology Alliance, a statewide, non-profit organization of leaders from Washington state’s technology-based businesses and research institutions.
