Mark Lee Green
Dr. Mark Green is a Professor of Mathematics at UCLA. He is a mathematician of breadth and impact, and a catalyst at the interface of mathematics and the sciences. Introduced Koszul cohomology, which launched the geometric study of syzygies and revolutionized applications of algebra to Hodge theory. Green also revitalized the circle of questions around hyperbolic varieties. He was instrumental in founding the Institute for Pure and Applied Mathematics at UCLA, where he served as first long-term Director. Under his leadership the institute succeeded in its mission to stimulate new applications of mathematics to fundamental scientific challenges. He is on the The Mathematical Sciences Committee of the National Academies of the USA in 2025, and his deputy chairman after former Caltech president Thomas Everhart.
