Marietta Simpson is a unique artist and a distinctive pathbreaker. Starting more than 40 years ago as an opera singer she defied many racial issues and created an all-encompassing career in the USA and abroad. Marietta's soft-spoken nature triumphed in every situation to win over everyone around her. During her first show in Washington, DC immediately after Hurricane Katrina, she galvanized the cast to send money and help however we could using our musical talents. She is a socially minded artist and willing to use it to affect change. She is a consummate artist, colleague and professional
