Marcia Angell

In 1997, Time magazine named her one of the twenty-five most influential Americans. She is widely respected as an astute commentator on medical ethics, health policy, scientific evidence, medical publishing, care at the end of life, and the relations between industry and medicine. Served as editor of The New England Journal of Medicine for 21 years and as its editor in chief, 1999-2000. Her books Science on Trial (1996) and The Truth About the Drug Companies (2004) have attracted much public interest. She speaks frequently to lay and professional audiences, makes television appearances, and consults with government. Her contributions add greatly to the public's understanding of medical and social issues. Member, the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, as well as several other honorary professional societies.
