Professor Emeritus, Tufts University. Scholar of European Medieval art and expert on glass painting and medieval women as viewers of art. Honorary President of the Union Acadmique Internationale. Recipient of both the John Nicholas Brown Prize and the Haskins Medal of the Medieval Academy of America. Has received grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Mellon Foundation, and the Getty Foundation. Forthcoming book is titled Limited Protection under the Law: Women and Jews in Sachsenspiegel Text and Image.
