Focuses on public policy issues where technical details matter. As an educator, he built a unique academic department that links substantive engineering to public policy; its graduates successfully serve in many private and public sector institutions. His scholarly research focuses on risk analysis and other important topics in formal policy analysis often involving the characterization and treatment of uncertainty. He has applied his expertise to important policy questions such as climate change and protection of the electric grid.
