Lloyd Hollingsworth Smith

Recently retired, he devoted his past career to academic internal medicine during sequential faculty membership at Harvard Medical School and UCSF. He was Chair of the Department of Medicine at the latter institution. Past research was directed to the biochemical basis of certain genetic diseases. He also edited several major textbooks of medicine and served on a number of committee of national importance, including the President's Science Advisory Committee, Chair of the Medical Advisory Board of the Howard Hughs Medical Institute, and Board of Overseers of Harvard University. At the present time he serves as a consultant concerning biomedical research and science policy.
