Lila R. Gleitman
Professor Lila R. Gleitman was Professor of Psychology Emerita at the University of Pennsylvania. She worked as an assistant professor at Swarthmore College before becoming the William T. Carter Professor of Education and then Steven and Marcia Roth Professor of Psychology at the University of Pennsylvania. Her work concerned the mental lexicon and its interface with syntax, language acquisition, and the relation between language and thought. She served as President of Language Development Society (2006-2021), Society for Philosophy and Psychology (2007), and Linguistic Society of America (1993). She was the recipient of the David Rumelhart Prize, Lenore Williams Award, and John McGovern Award. Some of her notable publications include Language origins in human mind: Collected papers, Language and experience: Evidence from the blind child, and Phrase and paraphrase.
