Designer and manager of the ARPANET. At the Advanced Research Projects Agency of the Department of Defense, he designed the network and wrote the Request for Proposal for a packet-switched computer network, to be called the Arpanet (October 1968). He then managed the development of the network (lines, switches, protocols, etc) until 1973. He then became president of the first commercial packet-switched network company TELENET which is now part of Sprint.
