Meghir has dominated research on consumption and labor supply for more than two decades, with key papers on consumption spending over life cycle, family labor supply, and other topics. His 1997 paper "Estimating Labour Supply Responses using Tax Reforms," received the Frisch Medal. His 2004 Econometrica article is the first to model changes over a career in earnings risk. His 2010 American Economic Review paper is a foundation for research on earnings risk and the effectiveness of transfer programs in cushioning consumers. Meghir has been a leader in experimental evaluations of programs to foster education and to enhance early childhood development, most recently in his design and evaluation of home stimulation interventions in Colombia and India. He has pioneered policy evaluation using structural modeling in combination with experimental and quasi-experimental methods, as in his 2012 Review of Economic Studies paper on Mexico's conditional cash transfer program "Progresa."
