Kiki Smith
Artist Kiki Smith is known primarily as a sculptor, but has also devoted herself to printmaking, which she considers an equally vital part of her work. She is sometimes credited as being a distinctly female voice in contemporary art. Smith's work in various media involves spirituality, storytelling and the human body. Having exhibited worldwide, her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, among others. Her earlier work reflects hidden social issues, specifically the body and inner biological systems, as well as the complexity of the erotic body. Her work has often included imagery of birth and regeneration and referenced narrative mythology and storytelling. Smith's recent work speaks to humanity's inseparability from the natural world.
