Roy J. Carver Professor of Physiology and Biophysics and Neurology; Investigator, Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Elucidated the molecular pathogenesis of several forms of muscular dystrophy. Identified key components of the dystroglycan complex, showed how they connect the cytoskeleton to the extracellular matrix, and discovered abnormal structure and function in disease. Studies have clinical implications for diagnosing and treating these forms of muscular dystrophy.
