Kinzler has made seminal contributions to cancer genetics helping to define many of the basic tenets of our current understanding of cancer. His team has helped define more than a dozen major cancer genes (e.g., APC, CTNNBI, PIK3CA, IDHI/2, ARIDlA, ATRX/DAXX and CIC), determine the pathophysiologic roles of genes in neoplasia (e.g., the APC/CTNNBl and TP53 pathways), developed novel genetic tools (e.g., transcriptome analysis, digital PCR) and pioneered the use of released tumor DNA (e.g. liquid biopsies) as a clinical biomarker for cancer.
