Kenneth Scheve has conducted pioneering research in three important areas of contemporary political science: public attitudes toward international trade and migration; why taxation in major democracies varies in progressivity; and, most recently, the extent and sources of populist voting.  His work was prescient in identifying why, and when, losers from international trade rebel against it politically; and his work on inequality and progressive taxation has questioned longstanding assumptions about the links between democracy and inequality.  Spanning the fields of comparative politics and international relations, Scheve has had a particularly broad impact on the field.
