Judith Ernst

Originally from the Northwest with a B.A. from Stanford University, Judith Ernst has painted, published illuminated books, and lived and traveled extensively in Europe and Asia. For over twenty years she has worked primarily in ceramics, drawing images from the deep well of past experience, always starting from a strong “mind’s eye” vision.

Conceptually, her work references the use of clay and the vessel form as a metaphor in ancient art and literature to convey metaphysical meaning, with three-dimensional relief directing the eye to an unseen mysterious interior.

Her ceramic work has been shown extensively in North Carolina, and it is currently represented by Galerie Wolfsen in Aalborg, Denmark; the Duane Reed Gallery in St. Louis; FRANK Gallery in Chapel Hill; and the Centerpiece Gallery in Raleigh.
