Distinguished evolutionary ecologist who applies the methods of quantitative genetics and experimental ecology to studies of evolutionary processes at a fine scale. His field studies and experiments with amphibians and fishes address subjects such as phenotypic plasticity and local adaptation in life history and behavior.  His work has been particularly focused on density-dependent natural selection. With his students, he demonstrated how intergenomic conflict shapes reproductive isolation in the least killifish. Currently he is studying how predation affects ecological and evolutionary feedback in guppies and killifish in Trinidad.~~~~
