My interests are in the Fluid Dynamics of the Atmosphere and the Oceans. I have worked on theories of the oceanic general circulation, the explanation for its major currents and thermal structure and its instabilities giving rise to ocean eddies and waves.
I have done similar work for the atmosphere.
For many years I have taught courses in this area, guided students for the Ph.D. dissertation work.
At the present time I am an emeritus scientist at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution continuing my research in the theoretical aspects of oceanic and atmospheric dynamics.
