Jonathan Jay Cole
Was Senior Scientist, emeritus and former G. Evelyn Hutchinson Chair in Ecology. His research contributed to understanding connections of freshwater ecosystems to climate warming. Worked on interface between microbiology and biogeochemistry in aquatic ecosystems. Studied biotic and abiotic regulation of microbial metabolism, energy flow, and carbon cycles in lakes, rivers, and marine systems. Focused on the fates of terrestrial C in aquatic systems and role that inland waters have on the global carbon balance. President of American Society of Limnology and Oceanography (2004-2006). Recipient of the ECI Prize (2003) from the International Ecology Institute. Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) Highly Cited Researcher (2003-present); Fellow of the American Geophysical Union (since 2011); member of the National Academy of Science since 2014.
