Dunn was an Oscar Ewing Professor Emeritus of Philosophy, Professor Emeritus of Informatics and Computer Science, retired Founding Dean, School of Informatics, and retired Cognitive Science Faculty. His research bridged philosophy and computer science. He introduced algebraic methods into relevance logic and related non-classical logics; contributed new proof-theoretic ideas to the study of these logics; initiated the study of generalized Galois logics (gaggles), an abstraction that has been applied to logic, computer/information science, and linguistics. He also worked on quantum logic/computation.
