John W. Kingdon is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor.  He is the author of Agendas, Alternatives, and Public Policies (1984, 1995, 2011), which received the 1994 Aaron Wildavsky Award for an enduring contribution to the study of public policy, given by the public policy section of the American Political Science Association. His other books include America the Unusual (1999) and Congressmen's Voting Decisions (1973, 1981, and 1989).  

He has been a John Simon Guggenheim Fellow and a Fellow at the Center for Advanced Behavioral Studies at Stanford.  He served as Chair of the Department of Political Science at the University of Michigan and as President of the Midwest Political Science Association, and has often been a Guest Scholar at the Brookings Institution.
