John Sweat, Jr.
John A. Sweat, Jr. has served on the Concord, North Carolina City Council since November 2009. John retired as a Captain from the U. S. Air Force and the North Carolina Air National Guard after more than 24 years of service. John has been chosen as a Class of 2020 inductee to the North Carolina Military Veterans Hall of Fame. John served as the NC League of Municipalities’ representative to the National League of Cities Council on Youth, Education, and Families and was appointed to the Cabarrus Rowan MPO Transportation Advisory Committee.
John is a 2014 graduate of the Cabarrus Regional Chamber's Leadership Cabarrus program and a member of the Cabarrus Literacy Council executive committee. He also served as the Associate Class (Retiree) Representative on the Executive Council for the North Carolina National Guard Association. Prior to his appointment to City Council, John served on the Racial Diversity Committee, Historic Commission, and the Planning and Zoning Commission for the City of Concord. John was honored to serve his Country in the military, and is now equally honored with the opportunity to serve his community on City Council.
