Legend is an award-winning singer, songwriter, pianist, actor and producer. His 2004 debut album Get Lifted garnered 8 Grammy nominations and 3 Grammy awards, including Best New Artist. He has since released several solo albums and a collaboration with The Roots called Wake Up! and now has a total of 10 Grammys.
Legend's song with Common called "Glory" was written for the Academy Award nominated film Selma. Legend and Common gave a rousing performance of the song at the 2015 Academy Awards and were named the recipients of that year's Best Original Song Oscar. Legend is one of only 15 individuals in the world to have competitively earned the so-called E.G.O.T., having won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony for his performances, songwriting and work as a film, television and theater producer.
Legend's work as an activist and philanthropist has also been prolific and impactful. He has founded The Show Me Campaign and FREE AMERICA to address the issues of poverty, education reform and criminal justice reform. For his artistry and his tireless work to improve the world, he has been recognized by many organizations, including the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Smithsonian Magazine, WSJ Magazine, BET (Humanitarian Award), Time Magazine (twice named to the Time 100) and more.
