My interests center on the natural history, ecology, and evolution of animal populations in nature, primarily through the use of molecular genetic markers. Topics range from micro- to macro-evolutionary, involve all major vertebrate groups (as well as some invertebrates), and include marine, freshwater, and terrestrial species. The theory and practice of evolutionary genetics are also relevant to ecological issues and conservation biology, areas that provide an underlying theme to much of my research. My interests also include the relevance of evolutionary genetics to human affairs.
