Joel W. Meyerson
Joel W. Meyerson co-founded the Forum for the Future of Higher Education, a national research center and learning community. He served as Director of the Forum from 1985- 2022. The Forum was based at MIT from 1999 to 2022 and previously was at Columbia, Stanford and Yale.
The Forum became a project of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2022.
The Forum worked with academic, science, military and government leaders worldwide. It conducted an annual Aspen Symposium where new knowledge and research were presented and discussed. Areas of inquiry included economics and finance, learning science, new learning media and technology, advances in cognitive and neurosciences, and geo-strategy and national security. The Forum also conducted annual programs with the Council on Foreign Relations, the Higher Education Working Group on Global Issues, and the Brookings Institution, the Program on the Economy and Higher Education. The Forum also partnered with WGBH Boston to develop On Campus Radio and inform programming to support a national conversation on the future of higher education.
Earlier in his career, Joel served as partner and chair of the Higher Education and Nonprofit practice of Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). He served as a director and advisor to national organizations, including EDUCAUSE, as well as technology and other companies. He is the author, co-author and editor of 14 books and publications. Joel is a graduate of Vassar, Brown and Columbia.
