Former President and CEO, University of Rochester, served from July 2005 through February 2018. At the University of Rochester, initiated new academic programs, institutes, and facilities; led a transformative capital campaign; increased the size of the student body and the academic faculty; and fostered synergistic efforts between the university and the local community, including its schools. Leading expert on securities law. Author or co-author of twenty books and more than forty articles on legal issues related to securities and corporations. Co-author (with the late Louis Loss and with Troy Paredes) of the eleven-volume Securities Regulation, the leading treatise in the field; and author of The Transformation of Wall Street: A History of the Securities and Exchange Commission and Modern Corporate Finance. Has served on numerous boards, including the National Association of Securities Dealers, Eastman Kodak Company, and the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Prior to Rochester, served as Dean and Ethan A. H. Shepley University Professor at the Washington University School of Law. Previously served as Dean and Samuel M. Fegtly Professor of Law at the University of Arizona. Also served on the law faculties at the University of Michigan, George Washington University, and Northeastern University. Elected a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2016.
