Serves on the boards of the New York Council for the Humanities, The New York Institute for the Humanities at New York University, the advisory board of the CUNY Graduate Center for the Humanities, and the national advisory board of the Du Bois Institute. Associate Fellow of Berkeley College, Yale University. Serves on the board of the Harlem Educational Activities Fund, which is dedicated to ensuring that students from Harlem and Washington Heights are prepared to enter the finest colleges and universities. Founding board member of Poets & Writers Inc., the National Dance Institute, The Paper Bag Players, Bay Street Theatre, and The American Friends of St Hilda's. Has served on several other boards, including the New York Public Library, the British Institute, and Guild Hall of East Hampton, New York. Has supported projects such as the rehearsal studio of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, the Rose Space Center at the American Museum of Natural History, Bryn Mawr College, and the Trilling Seminars at Columbia University, and has provided help for research and scholars in the humanities. ~~
