Joan Toland Bok is former chairman of New England Electric System, a public utility holding company. Prior to joining the System in 1968, she was an attorney with Ropes & Gray, and also had her own law practice. She serves and has served on many public and non-profit boards. She is director of the Avery Dennison Corporation, and a trustee of the Boston Athenaeum, the National Osteoporosis Foundation, Vermont Historical Society, Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, and Worcester Foundation for biomedical Research. She is a former president of the Harvard Board of Overseers.
