Jeremy Berg led the investigation of zinc finger proteins, proteins structurally organized around bound zinc ions, that play key roles in gene regulation and other central biological processes. He successfully predicted the three-dimensional structure of the first recognized zinc finger domain, recognized as one of the first successful predictions of a protein structure. He also contributed greatly to understanding the structural basis of intracellular protein targeting. He directed the National Institute of General Medical Sciences at NIH and promoted transparency and improvements in peer review and program evaluation. He was recently named the next Editor-in-Chief of Science Magazine..
