Research unraveled key mechanisms whereby receptors for the Fc portions of immunoglobin mediate their functions and the biological significance of their activity, recognizing that both stimulatory and inhibitory Fc receptors exist and act together to insure function, including the efficacy of therapeutic antibodies and the limitation of autoimmunity.
