Ms. Jean Strouse was Director of the Dorothy and Lewis B. Cullman Center for Scholars and Writers at the New York Public Library from 2003-2017. She is a writer, biographer, and historian. Her biography of Alice James won the Bancroft Prize in American History and Diplomacy. Her biography of J. Pierpont Morgan won a number of prizes, including the Ambassador Book Award, and was named one of The New York Times' 10 Best Books of the Year for 1999. Her essays have appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Review of Books, The New York Times, and other publications. She is a past president of the Society of American Historians and a recipient of fellowships from the Guggenheim and MacArthur Foundations.
