Research centers on the effects of surface free energy on the shapes of crystals, individually and in polycrystalline materials, and both in equilibrium and in evolutioin under various kinetic laws. Her early work solved the 100-year-old problem of the surface singularities in soap-bubble clusters and films, the isitropic version of the equilibrium structure of polycrystals. She also writes and lectures on current issues concerning women in mathematics.
