Jean Bethke Elshtain

Laura Spelman Rockefeller Professor of Social and Political Ethics University of Chicago Research runs the gamut from families and public life to war. She has written on women in social and political thought, the status of American democracy, war and peave debates, the philosophy of social sceince, history of Western political thought, religion and politics, theology and debates about the human person and of modern culture. Her current work moves in several directions: a major book on Jane Adams and American democracy is forthcoming and a project on understandings of sovereignty in theology, politics and law is underway.
