Jean Allman

Jean Allman is J.H. Hexter Professor in the Humanitiesm, Professor Emeritus of African and African-American Studies, History (Affiliate), and Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies (Affiliate) at Washington University St. Louis. 

She has approached the study of the past through a range of interdisciplinary and thematically diverse topics - nation and national identity, gender and colonialism, fashion and the politics of clothing, and the modernity and mobility of indigenous belief systems.

Allman serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of African History and, with Allen Isaacman, is Editor of the New African Histories series from Ohio University Press.
