Professor Janet Browne is Aramont Professor of the History of Science at Harvard University. Her main research focus is the history of the life sciences, geographical expeditions, and natural history, with an emphasis on Charles Darwin’s life and work. Her biographical work on Darwin and her exploration of the transmission of scientific knowledge in the 19th century received much recognition. Browne received her B.A. degree from Trinity College Dublin in zoology and her M.Sc. and Ph.D.in history of science from Imperial College London. Browne is a previous editor of the British Journal for the History of Science, past President of the British Society for the History of Science, and past President of the History of Science Society. She is also past chair of Section L in the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
