Jane E. Buikstra

Jane Buikstra is the major expert on the skeletal remains of ancient Americans and bioarchaeology. She is at the forefront of the application of new forensic techniques to skeletal analyses but also has been sensitive·to the concerns of Native Americans in the repatriation of skeletal remains to tribes in North America. Her key research has shed new light on the life histories of the Pre-Columbian inhabitants of the Americas, especially in regard to questions of injury, disease, and mortality.
