Philosopher of language and mind, contributing to the study of language, philosophy of logic, and linguistics. Focus in philosophy on linguistic competence, compositionality, the relation of logic to natural language, predication, perceptual and event reports, and first-person-and other references in thought, communication, and the attribution of propositional attitudes. In linguistics, contributed to both syntax and semantics, especially understanding of tense and aspect, thematic roles, anaphora, and the relation between grammar and logical form. Authored Tense, Aspect, and Indexicality (2009), and over one hundred articles and reviews. Fellow, British Academy.
