The career of Jacques Neefs spans cultures and continents as well as Parisian literary archives from which he has deciphered the secrets of the creative process. Emeritus Professor and Vice-President of the University of Paris 8, and Emeritus Professor of French at Johns Hopkins, his studies of Flaubert's manuscripts have brought new information and critical rigor to scholarship, as well as better editions of Flaubert's novels. He has served the French government as an academic ambassador to places from China to Africa to Central Europe, Russia, and North America. His experience with universities worldwide, as a higher administrator, dissertation director in three countries, and renowned scholar make him eminently suited to contribute to the Academy's international outreach program.
