Research elaborates a pragmatist model of problem solving inquiry. He has developed a decision theoretic approach to belief change -- including both the adding of information to and removal of information from a body of belief. He has proposed a general account of indeterminate probability and utility together with a decision criterion that has relevance to statistical reasoning and conflicts in value. In recent years, he has proposed a belief revisional account of suppositional reasoning that has relevance both to the understanding of conditional modal judgements and to non monotonic reasoning.
