Her research focuses on the determinants and consequences of external trade and financial imbalances, the theory of financial crises and the organization of the international monetary system. Demonstrated in particular that countries gross external asset positions help predict current account adjustments and the exchange rate. Fellow of the British Academy and recipient of the 2006 Bernácer Prize awarded to the best European economist working in macroeconomics and finance under the age of 40, the inaugural 2012 Birgit Grodal Award of the European Economic Association honoring a European-based female economist who has made a significant contribution to the economics profession, and the 2013 Yrjö Jahnsson Award to the European economist under 45 years old who has made a significant contribution in theoretical and applied research to economics in Europe.
