Hector Garcia-Molina is the Leonard Bosack and Sandra Lerner Professor in the Departments of Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. His research interests include distributed computing systems, digital libraries and database systems. During 1994- 98 he was the Principal Investigator for the Stanford Digital Library Project from which the Google search engine emerged. Since 2001 Garcia-Molina has been a member of Oracle Corporation's Board of Directors. In 2007 he received an honorary doctorate from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in Zurich.
