Hanna Kokko is a theoretician who works at the interface of ecology, evolution, and behavior. She has brought modelling precision to behavioral ecology, especially our understanding of sex number, sex ratios, parental care, how competition reduces fitness, the importance of spatial effects on evolution, and life history strategies. She takes a keen eye to life history strategies, spatial structure and their importance on traits of organisms including mating systems, mating conflict, sex ratios, anisogamy, and parental care. Her insights are clear and general and show how using population means can be misleading in a world of within-species competition.
