Professor Emeritus KTH A pioneer in the development of acoustic theory applied to human speech and in the broader area of speech communication research that has paved the way for present systems of man-computer interface by spoken language. This involves studies of speech physiology, speech analysis, speech synthesis, speech perception and relations to the linguistic frame. A part of this work was initiated at MIT from 1949-1951. A special topic covered in the theory of speech distortion under high ambient pressure and breathing specific gas mixtures as in deep-sea diving. Another is objective study of read poetry with respect to meter and rhythm.
