Triantis' work focuses on commercial transactions and corporate finance. He is a preeminent scholar in the field of contract design, and has made important contributions to the understanding of the embedding of options in contracts, the use of vague contract language, the impact of bargaining power, and the processes of negotiation and contracting.  Triantis is also a prominent bankruptcy scholar, and authored some of the leading analyses of the use and regulation of debt priority.  His scholarship has valuable implications for both the structuring of commercial transactions and their regulation by courts.
