Gary B. Nash was professor emeritus of history at UCLA. Nash was the director of the National Center for History in the Schools and a member of the Second Century National Parks Service Commission. Nash was a Founding Member and Trustee of the National Council for History Education, for which he most recently served as Vice Chair. He was the former president of the Organization of American Historians (1994-95). His 1979 book The Urban Crucible: Social Change, Political Consciousness, and the Origins of the American Revolution was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in history.
