Fumihiko Sueki
Sueki numbers among Japan’s leading scholars of Japanese Buddhism and Japanese Religion. His research, ranging from the ninth century to the present, has taken the field of Buddhist thought beyond traditional theological and sectarian frameworks, locating it within Japan’s larger intellectual history and bringing its perspectives to bear on contemporary issues in ethics and comparative philosophy. He has published almost fifty single-author monographs and edited or co-edited works, mentored foreign students, and fostered an extensive international network of colleagues. Widely respected for his intellectual scope and fair-mindedness, Sueki is sought after as a leader of collaborative and interdisciplinary projects.
