Professor Fritz W. Scharpf is the Director at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Societies. He taught as Assistant Professor of Law at the Yale Law School (1964-1966) and as Professor of Political Science at the University of Constance (1968-1974). Subsequently he was appointed as director of the International Institute of Management, Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin (1973-1984). His main focus of research has been on structural asymmetries of European Integration and its liberalizing and deregulatory impacts on the socio-economic regimes of EU member states. His awards include the Johan Skytte Prize, Science Prize, Lifetime Contribution Award, and Bielefeld Science Award.
