Goldman is a writer of literary fiction and non-fiction whose work has won awards both in the United States and abroad, namely the 2011 Prix Femina Etranger award for Say Her Name (2011), the Sue Kaufman Prize for First Fiction for The Long Night of White Chickens (2013) and the Premio Azul for The Interior Circuit (2014). His writing is often concerned with human rights, trauma, and cultural issues, especially as dramatized in individual lives. He received the PEN Mexico Award for Literary Excellence (2018) was a Guggenheim Fellow, a fellow at the New York Public Library Cullman Center, and at the Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Studies at Harvard.  His novel Monkey Boy will be published in 2020.
